Digital by Default for the Public Sector

Your website is your single most important communications tool and it’s vitally important that it works hard for you. Web-based communications are the most cost-effective way of ensuring your message reaches a large audience. Whether you are a government department, local municipal or health authority, a university, college or school, your website needs to be accessible the public.

More and more information is being communicated online. The case for web accessibility is strong, but as few as 14% of websites are actually accessible. If you are asking the public to fill in their tax returns, pay their parking fines or to attend one of your courses, you need to be sure that everyone can access your website content the way they need it. For anyone at home, in the office or on the go, Recite makes your website accessible.

Our Cloud based web accessibility software enhances the user experience for 15-20% of your website visitors with dyslexia. Our solution also makes your website more accessible for people with visual or cognitive impairments and as well as people with English as a second language. Recite can open your doors to anyone who needs to access your web content via our text to speech functionality, dyslexia software or by using one of our many other features such the DocReader, an online MP3 creator or our 52 language translation tool.

Do you really know your customers?

Web Accessibility and the Public Sector Equality Duty in the UK

Public authorities in the UK are required to meet the provisions in the public sector equality duty which came in to force in April 2011 as part of the Equality Act 2010. There are a set of objectives that public bodies have to achieve and at least every 4 years public authorities have to publish their equality objectives and any information which demonstrates their compliance with the public sector duty.

Gateshead Council Logo

“The product looked modern, fresh and easy to use and had more features than we were hoping for. We were particularly impressed by all the dyslexic features, like plain text view and varying contrast.

The purchase and installation of Recite was very easy and straight forward as all that had to be done was to insert a line of code into the council’s website. The team at Recite were a great help as they were always reachable and very helpful with any questions and suggestions.”

Northumbria University Logo

“Northumbria chose Recite as it was unique in terms of its features and the way that it operates. Recite enables websites to read themselves aloud without any special software or hardware on the user’s machine. This makes our website more accessible to visitors who are visually impaired. It also helps public sector organisations such as ourselves comply with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010

Additional features allow the user to change the appearance of the website i.e. text-only view, set the text and background colour and display a coloured ruler, all of which are useful for visitors with dyslexia. Very little work was required by our internal web team in terms of integration.”
